About The Album

James on his debut album 'TOMORROW': "I've been working on this album for well over a year and can’t wait to share it with you all! For now I hope this will give you an insight into the background of my first record and a taster of what to expect.

The Band

On this album I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with not only some of my best friends, but some of the leading jazz musicians in the UK. We've been playing together for over 5 years after meeting through the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, and all share a passion for jazz music which I think shines through on the record. This great understanding we've developed has made this whole process so enjoyable, allowing everyone to contribute their own unique qualities and ideas.

The Album

The main influence behind this whole project is my passion for singing jazz standards. The composers and lyricists who’s work make up The Great American Songbook have gifted us with a rich library of incredible songs that allow us all to interpret them in our own way. The majority of songs on the album are jazz standards that I spent months carefully deciding, until finally finding a balance that worked.

The arrangements were done by myself and the two Musical Directors, Nick Fitch and Joe Hill. Together we worked on my vision for the album to have an old-school feel with a modern edge that would appeal to a wider audience.
These fresh arrangements for 'TOMORROW' were inspired by many of my favourite artists, including Oscar Peterson, Nat King Cole, Sarah Vaughan, Diana Krall, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Ella Fitzgerald, Harry Connick Jr. and many more. You can expect to hear slick and exciting arrangements, with a range of swing tunes complimented by ballads and Bossa Novas.

After workshopping, rehearsing and fine-tuning the arrangements, we recorded the album in November 2019, spending 2 full days at Eastcote Studios in Ladbroke Grove (West London), working with audio engineer George Murphy. The studio environment really brought the arrangements to life and I am so excited for you to hear them!

Crowdfunder Success!

In February 2019 I launched a Crowdfunding campaign to raise the necessary funds to get the album finished. This was a great success and we reached our target of £2,500 in just 27 days with over 70 generous donors. These lovely people who supported the album are now part of the journey by making this album possible, which I am very extremely grateful for.

Check out the video from the Crowdfunder here for a behind the scenes look at our time recording in the studio.
